When there is an upcoming wedding or a baby on the way, some of the most anticipated events for these occasions are the showers. There are many different fun ideas, if you are the one throwing the shower, but they can sometimes be very expensive to do. Trying to throw a shower on a budget is a tricky thing, mostly because you don’t want the entire event to look or feel cheap. There are still nice touches you can add to a shower that won’t drain your bank account, and make your friend or relative feel very special.
When sending out invites, there are many cute and creative options, but those same options can also cost a lot of money. If you can, try making the invites yourself. Most people have some extra scrapbook paper sitting around in their closets. If not, there are usually stacks of it on sale at craft stores. If you want to go an extra step and save even more money, email the invites, or use social media to invite people. This will not only save you on paper and materials, but on the cost of stamps too.
When it comes to serving food at the shower, try to make it all yourself instead of ordering it. More than likely, ordering out for food from a restaurant or caterer will cost you quite a bit. One idea is to make some popcorn. You can add food coloring to melted white chocolate to make it pink, blue or have it match the couple’s wedding colors. Take the white chocolate and drizzle it over the popcorn and/or add in chocolate candies. If you want other inexpensive foods, try getting seasonal fruits or veggies and making up some fruit and vegetable platters. Salad, pasta or potato bars are other great main dishes that don’t cost a lot of money to set up. One last thing to consider, helping alleviate costs, is to have other people contribute by bringing food.
Just because it is homemade doesn’t mean it can’t look as nice. When it comes to what you are serving, it is much more about the presentation. If you are looking for a great way to decorate the table with the food, find new and creative ways for setting them out. Popcorn can be served in different colored papers that have been taped into funnels. Set them out in a box covered with paper that has had holes pocked into it. If you need nice stacked platters or cake stands, purchase cups and platters from a dollar store, and then simply glue them together to give you instant platters. If you want to change it up a bit, you can always spray paint them to disguise it more.
There are numerous great ways to decorate without spending a lot of money. Plenty of attractive and affordable banners and signs can be made. Streamers, tissue paper balls and an abundance of balloons are other great ways to decorate with just a few dollars. Even the party favors can be eye-catching without having to be overly complicated. Try pinning napkins into diapers and filling them with candy. Wedding showers can have an assortment of candies matching wedding colors for a bridal shower. Your local dollar stores will have plenty of things you can also use.
One last way to save a lot of money is to have the shower at someone’s home. While having it at a special rented venue might be fun, it can also be very expensive. Save yourself several hundred dollars and get the mother or bride-to-be a great gift instead. The venue can be one of the most expensive things in the budget, so it usually is best to consider somewhere free.
The main thing you should realize is that people are more concerned with a nice, fun atmosphere to celebrate a big life event together. All of the smaller details matter, but they are really just a backdrop to the guest of honor. When you focus more on the subject, than on spending a lot of money, you will always have a successful shower.
